A little about Amanda..

From a young age, Amanda had a passion for running. She would often run in school sports days when an older cousin suggested to her mother to put her in little athletics. From there, she flourished. She went on to represent Alice Springs and the NT multiple times, and she had a blast doing it.

She had her first son shortly after she married the love of her life and continued her passion for running, then 5 years ago she had surgery to remove an ovary that was cancerous, that didn’t stop her from having 2 more amazing little boys and it certainly didn’t stop her from running, her favourite route to run: along Barrett drive, down the causeway and back up South Tce, the track we have chosen for her honour run.

Sadly, earlier this year, she was flown to Darwin to see specialists as she was suffering from severe abdominal swelling (a symptom of ovarian cancer) and from there she was flown to the cancer centre in Melbourne. Unfortunately, surgery revealed that the cancer was back and it had spread; it was terminal. Six short days later, she passed peacefully with her mother and husband by her side.

Before she passed, she told her family and friends that she wanted her legacy to live on and for her family and friends to advocate for ovarian cancer awareness and research, and so this run was created with her blessing.
