  • 2021 Calendar - Revised

    Hi Everyone

    "The times they are a changing"

    The unfortuante accident at Simpsons Gap earlier this year has forced us to think hard about where we hold our events and make sure that we comply with all traffic management requirements. But most importantly we need to to everything to ensure the safety of all our runners and walkers.

    Traffic management is an expensive exercise - both in money terms and also in volunteeer needs. Trails, parks and bike paths are going to be where  most events will be held in future. Some changes are already being implemented over the remainder of this year - for example the ABC Half Marathon has been changed from its traditional course outside the Steiner School to now running loops of the trail starting across from Lasseters. You will also notice other changes to dates and venues in this new calendar. - plus some new events. So please bin your old calendar to avoid confusion. The new revised calendar is attached.

    At the start of the year, it looked as though the Alice Springs Marathon was no more. The traffic management costs (close to $4,000)  along with the volunteer requirements were just too much. But recently we have had some requests from outside the Territory asking for a marathon in Alice. There are some craxy marathon runners out there and many of them want to run a marathon in the NT.

    So we have come up with a course that these crazy runners are happy with and which I believe will be a winner for all - both participants and supporters. The glitz and glamour of marathons in the big cities will be replaced by heaps of small city support and encouragement making every runner feel special.  I like to think we are laying the foundations for the Alice Springs Marathon to continue for another 40 years. The date is still 4 months away which leaves plenty of time for everyone to get their marathon running shoes on and start training. A marathon poster is attached.

  • Membership 2021

    Happy New Year to everyone from all of us on the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club Committee

    We hope you have all had a fantastic break, either interstate or enjoying the amazing weather that has been in Alice Springs this holiday period.

    You may have already heard that our committee has decided to cancel this year’s Australia Day Fun Run due to many concerns on returning travellers from interstate and the risk still involved with Covid-19.

    So we have decided to launch our 2021 season on Saturday the 13th of February at 0700 with a 5k event around the river path starting opposite the casino. The idea is for the event to be more about fun and appealing to everyone rather than competition. So we have decided to make it a Time Tease event. You predict your finishing time and the winner will be the person closest to their predicted time. Gift vouchers will be awarded to the 3 people closest to their predicted time.

    It’s a fantastic way to ease into the New Year. So everyone is invited to just come along and celebrate a new year with a fun enjoyable non timed event and to release our new calendar for 2021.

    Entry will be $5 for everyone which will be given back to you with a free coffee from the coffee van! Also a breakfast will be provided consistent with our Covid guidelines.
    Juniors will be free!

    Membership for the 2021 season is now open, and our membership fees have risen by $10 for both adults and juniors due to NT Athletics raising their member affiliation fee this year to allow for increasing insurance costs.

    Unfortunately this season we are unable to offer family membership because of changes with the NT Athletics membership categories. ASRWC has long supported families with subsidised memberships. To continue this practice, the committee has decided to support families who register with a $30 gift voucher from Intersport. A family must consist of at least one adult member and a minimum of two juniors. In this way we hope to keep families on board and the little ones running as families are a very important part of our club.

    We are all looking forward to seeing everyone in 2021 and the committee has been hard at work planning an amazing calendar of events which we can’t wait to release on Saturday 13th February at the Todd River 5km Time Tease at 0700.

  • Special General Meeting

    Dear members
    Since our AGM on the 29th November, we have been informed by Athletics NT - our parent body - that the fees they charge for each registered athlete will rise for 2021.  These fees - known as capitation fees - will rise $10 to $40 for each adult registered athlete, and also $10 to $30 for each U18 athlete.
    Our membership fees in 2020 (and for the last few years previous to that) were $40 for adult athletes and $20 for U18 athletes. Keeping the same fees through 2021 will mean we are losing money on each registered member, as we also have to cover the cost of membership bibs.
    So our proposal is to raise the membership fees to $50 for adult members and $30 for U18 members. As you can see these fees do no more than barely cover the cost of memberships. All U18 members will have free entry to all regular club events. 
    Our constitution requires that changes to membership fees need to be approved by a General Meeting. Given that we have just held the AGM, we need to organize a new General Meeting and give 21 days notice to all members.
    So a General meeting is notified for:

    Time: 7.00pm
    Venue: 1A Winnecke Ave
    The following motion will be moved:
    That ASRWC membership fees for 2021 be set at $50 for adult members and $30 for U18 members.
  • Memberships for 2020

    Memberships for 2020 are now closed.

    We will soon be opening Memberships for 2021.

  • Deep Water Running


    Deep water running sessions sponsored by ASRWC will start again on Thursday 1st October at 5.30pm for 1 hour at ASALC.

    And then each Thursday following at the same time.

    You will need a water running belt to take part. So if you don't have one, then see Greg at Intersport to order.

    The sessions are open to all. Deep water running is the best cross training for running and also the best way to keep fitness while staying cool over summer.
  • Strength, Conditioning and Flexibility

    Check out the newest events on our calendar, strength and conditioning and flexibility specifically for runners.

    We all say we know we need to do it and don’t, so come down to head street oval for a four week accountability gainfest!

  • Not the Monster 65 and 25 km

    The Not The Monster event was a spectaculer success with about 100 people competing in either the 65 km ultramarathon or the 25 kilometre event.

    Special thanks must go to all of the volunteers for making the event such a success, particularly the volunteers on the organisaing comittee and Marc Woods the Race Director. Legendary effort by all.

    Special Congratulations to Ariarn Huston and Simon Duke for winning the 65 km event and Alexander Marcus and Georgina Beech for winning the 25 km.

  • Telegraph Station Cross Country

    We're back!!!

    A great morning was had on Sunday the 14th June with the running of the Telegraph Station Cross Country.

    There was a great turnout and it was fantastic to see a number of people coming to an event for the first time.

  • Online race registrations using Team App

    Following feedback from the survey put out earlier this year the club will trialling TEAM APP https://www.teamapp.com/clubs/503835 as an online event payment and registration system for local events. At this stage only current members will be able to use the system.
    The first event that we will be trialling the use of TEAM APP for will be the upcoming Telegraph Trail Run (4km/10km) on Sunday 22 March at 7pm starting and finishing at the Telegraph Station.
    1. Download the 'Team App' App to your smart device
    2. Search for Alice Springs Running and Walking Club
    3. Register your profile or continue as a guest
    4. Click on events and you'll see a calendar with a dot underneath the 22nd of March - click on the date (If you're on a computer in events you'll see the Telegraph Trail Run there).
    5. Open the event and select 'Purchase tickets' (You might have to scroll down a little)
    6. Choose your ticket type and follow the prompts, paying with your Visa or Mastercard - YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER YOUR BIB NUMBER AS A PART OF THE PROCESS
    7. An email receipt will be sent to the address you nominate.
    If the app doesn't seem to work on your phone you can access team app online in your normal web browser.
    For those that use the app to register we'd love to hear your feedback on your experience on the morning of the event or via email.
    You will still be able to register with cash if you prefer at Intersport or on the morning of the event.

  • Water Running

    We are pleased to add a new activity with the Club booking a lane at the town pool for anyone interested in water running.

    On Thursday nights from 5 pm to 6 pm.

    Just pay your pool entry fee.

    Some club belts will be available to try - first in best dressed

  • Trail Runs

    The trail running events were so successful a third was added.

    On Sunday the 3rd of November, about 30 people completed a twilight trail run.

    Many competitors were completing a night event for the first time.
  • Alice Springs Marathon

    The Alice Springs Marathon will this year be held on Sunday 18 August 2019. Formerly part of the Alice Springs Running Festival, the Marathon (with a half marathon inclusion) will be offered as a dedicated event, starting and finishing at the picturesque Alice Springs Desert Park at the base of Mount Gillen.

    The Marathon starts at 6:30 am and is an out and back course towards Honeymoon Gap.

    the Half Marathon starting at 7.30am, participants will be transported to the Marathon turnaround point and will run back in.
    Registrations are $50 for Marathon, $30 for Half Marathon
  • Time Tease

    Congratulations to Anatola Taylor for winning the Time Tease event.

    Anatola's "guess" for her time has within three seconds of her actual time.

    Congratulations also to Simon Duke for crossing the line first.

Upcoming Events

  • ABC Half Marathon

    The ABC Half Marathon will be held on Sunday the 25th of July at 7 am.

    For many years this has been one of our most popular events - largely due to the great support from Stewart Brash and ABC Local Radio, but also because the event caters for all runners and walkers.
    Most of you are probably aware that we have had to move the event this year to a loop course around the river and starting opposite Lasseters. This new course will allow us to create a great atmosphere with lots of support for runners and walkers as they complete each lap.
    It is possible to enter the event as an individual - running or walking either 21.1km or 6km,
    You can team up with others and share the 21.1km distance. Teams can consist of between 2 to 5 runners or walkers.
    You can enter online here or you can come along and enter at the start from 6.30am on Sunday.
    And please remember everyone is resposible for providing their own water. A table will be set up at the start/finish for people to take a drink after each lap.
    Breakfast and the medal presentation will take place after the event.

    Hi again members,

    Say what?!!! Did you know that the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club have non-running/walking events?!!

    Here is what we have coming up on the calendar:

    1. Monday March 22 -  Nutrition Night. 5:30pm. Centralian Senior College Theatrette. A talk with our very own accredited sports dietitian Megan Scott. $2 for club members, $5 for non-members. This is info we all need to know!! Register online here or bring cash on the night. 
    2. Thursday 25th March - Core Strength Training for Runners. Head Street Oval at 6pm for 4 thursdays in a row. With PT extraordinaire Nick Moody. Price to be released very soon. 
    3. Saturday March 27 - Trails In Motion Film Festival. Araluen Theatre, 7pm. Book online HERE (FYI Lucy Bartholemew will be there in REAL life!!!! If you do not know who she is.... then just book the tickets and you will soon see. Hint... she is a pro Salomon athlete. You could also just Google her).
    4. Thursday April 29th - Mandatory Gear Info Night. Lone Dingo. Time TBA. Hosted by Lone Dingo and your West Macs Monster gear. Come along for tips and info on all things mandatory gear. Free

  • 2020 Revised Calendar

    Following all the disruptions to 2020, we have updated the calendar for the remainder of 2020.

    The calendar includes both old favourites and some exciting new events. We hope to see everyone at as many events as possible.

  • Not the Masters Mile

    As mostof you would know, this year we were supposed to be hosting the Masters Games in Alice Springs. Unfortunately like so many other events, it has been cancelled.

    We would still like to host one event though and the Not-The-Masters-Mile will be held on Thursday the 15th of October at 6:30 pm. .
